Fishing Signage on the Allan Water, Scotland. Illustration of a kingfisher bird.

Client

Cast Abroad Collective & Allan Water Angling Improvement Association (AWAIA).

Deliverables

Signboard, signage, illustration, print design.

Challenge

The Allan Water is a Scottish river known in the fishing community for its salmon and trout, visited by both locals and tourists. Its growth in popularity however, has lead to an increase in litter along its banks.

An informative sign was required, encouraging recreational use of the river, but also reminding visitors to take their litter home.
The panel chosen consisted of a vertical freestanding metal sheet, that bent an angle at the top for reading purposes. The larger part of the panel at the base was designed to attract passers by. The panel highlighted the beautiful wildlife found in this location, using a mixed style of water colour and graphic illustrations.
Mockup. Fishing sign by the rivers edge, shown at two angles. A little boy stands by one pointing at the map with a stick. Showing perspective.
Pre-studies for the wildlife using pen and ink, experimenting with different illustrative styles.
Outline drawing of a Kingfisher bird on orange background.
